Why We Chose an Alaska Cruise for Our 10-Year Anniversary

Early in our marriage, my husband and I began talking about how we wanted to celebrate milestones in our marriage. For the Big Ten, we knew we wanted something big, something memorable. We considered tropical destinations, all-inclusive resorts, and even a European vacation, but we kept coming back to one destination: Alaska.

There’s something about Alaska that feels different. The towering glaciers, breathtaking mountains, wildlife sightings, and untouched landscapes make it feel like an adventure rather than just a vacation. My stomach literally does flips just thinking about it!

As we’ve grown together over the last decade, we’ve found that our favorite trips are the ones that combine relaxation with exploration. An Alaskan cruise offers both. We can enjoy the comforts of the ship while waking up each morning to incredible scenery and exciting new ports.

Between work schedules, four kids, homeschooling, and homesteading, my husband and I don’t spend a lot of time just connecting. This is the perfect getaway to enjoy time together sprinkled with a little down time and a whole lot of adventure!

We’re traveling in September, which is the final stretch of Alaska cruise season. While the weather may be cooler and rain is always possible, we’re excited about smaller crowds, beautiful fall colors, and the chance to experience Alaska during a quieter time of year.

Our itinerary includes two days exploring on land before boarding our 7-day cruise, giving us even more opportunities to soak in everything this incredible destination has to offer.

Over the next few months, I’ll be sharing our planning process, packing lists, outfit ideas, and cruise preparation tips as we get ready for this once-in-a-decade anniversary adventure.

Have you ever cruised Alaska? I’d love to hear your favorite memories and recommendations in the comments.
